But think about it for a moment. The highest form of patriotism, really? Military service, Public service, even picking up trash along the highway would count in my book as higher forms of patriotism.
Anonymous said...: The military protect the country from outside enemies (or the occasional coup). The people doing public service keep the country running. The dissenters try to protect the country from the insidious internal threat of overreaching politicians. Many countries have been saved from incoming dictatorship or unnecessary wars by people protesting in the street, exposing themselves to government retaliation for what they believe (it's a lot harder to hide from your own gvt). In some recent cases that sadly wasn't enough.
Highest? Probably not. Up there near the top? Yep!
